Glittered Gourd Centerpiece

IMG_1252
The Osage Oranges that have been adorning my dining room table for the last month have been slowly rotting, one by one. I took advantage of a free Saturday afternoon and glittered some of my dried gourds. If you are new to my blog, you can read about how I dry gourds here.
I used three Martha Stewart glitter colors from Michaels and leftover glitter from a past project from Art Glitter.

Mama gave me an old dough board that she retrieved from a family member’s shed. I thought that it would be the perfect base for my new centerpiece.
First I had to clean it. After being in the shed for who knows how many years, it was filthy.
This dough board is huge. I think that it will make a nice tray for entertaining. Can’t you see hot casseroles on top of it? Or I may use it as a serving tray for entertaining outside. I also hope to roll some dough on it one of these days.
This is before. See how large it is? It is wider than my washer.

After it was clean, I oiled it with mineral oil.

Look at the difference!

I first layered a crocheted (I think) piece that Mr. SP’s grandmother made, then the dough board, then a silver tray, and finally my glittered gourds. I added faux acorns and preserved leaves for interest.
I love it!
