Vintage Typewriter Table

When I visited my aunt over Christmas break, she gave me a very interesting typewriter table that belonged to my great-great aunt who raised my grandmother.

Have you ever seen anything like this?  I certainly have not!  Believe it or not, it actually is pretty comfortable to use.  It could be a tad bit bigger, but for its size, it’s not a bad place to sit and type.

Since this was originally my Great-Great Aunt Fannie’s table, I’ll include a picture of Fannie.  I barely remember her, but my grandmother and my father loved her to death.  My dad took my mom to meet Fannie before my grandmother met her!

I’m not sure where this table will find its permanent home, but for now it is in my family room.  I thought it would be fun to fill it with vintage books to make a vignette.

Old books are so interesting.  Some of these were my grandmother’s and a few Mama gave to me.  Many are my grandfather’s school books.

The stool part of the table cleverly folds underneath it.

I’ll soon find the perfect little nook for this cute table.  Have you ever seen anything like this?

  1. I’ve never seen a table like that, but it’s perfect. I love all those old family stories, and the name Fannie made me think of Fannie Flagg, of course, an author I love. Hope all is well with you. Thanks for commenting on my post. xo

  2. That really is TOO cool! I’ve never seen one of these! But it is the perfect spot for some of your books! ♥

  3. Hi Paula! What a darling little table and no, I’ve never seen anything like this! Isn’t that something how the little stool folds under the desk! I love your vignette with all the little books. I sure Fannie would be so pleased to know her little desk has stayed in her family!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  4. I have never seen anything like that table. What a perfect size! I love how the stool is attached and folds up when not in use. Also, how special that it belonged to a family member.

  5. So cute. What a great addition to your home and so nice that it comes with a bit of a legacy. Thanks for sharing, liz

  6. Love it! I think I’d use it for my laptop – – – you know, “today’s typing.”

It is just a great little piece, and the story makes it even better.

  7. I have a table very similar – but without the folding seat. We got it when an association my husband belongs to downsized and closed their office. I thought it was a telephone table – formerly used in a bank, perhaps, (the opening begin for a telephone book) – but your explanatnion makes sense, as well. How delightful to see your post and discover some history.

  8. Oh Paula, that is so unique and how wonderful to have such a special treasure! Your aunt Fannie was a beautiful lady, what an awesome photograph!

  9. That is so cool! I’ve never seen anything like it. Your Aunt Fannie sure is pretty. Love her dress!
