2011 Christmas Tour :: The Family Room

Earlier this week I shared our living room and kitchen.  Today’s post is the family room where we spend many hours each evening.  Watching tv and looking at the tree is a most pleasant way to end the day.

Our tree looks pretty much the same from year-to-year.  This year I added a topper similar to one Mama has always used from the late 60’s or 70’s.  I bought mine in a Christmas shop in Manteo.  My grandmother made our tree skirt and it’s been used by our family as long as I can remember.  Mama let me have it a few years ago.

My first grade teacher gave me this book.

Of course I had to use vintage post cards!

Gifts await Christmas morning in an antique laundry basket.

From the family room, this vignette can be seen on top of the pie safe in the dining area.  The Econolite will stay out all winter.  If you aren’t familiar with these, there’s a light inside with a tube that turns making it look like it’s snowing.

  1. My great aunt Helen had a motion lamp with a train that seemed to be chugging down the tracks. Motion lamps are fun to watch, aren’t they?

  2. I’ve never seen a motion lamp but imagine it is beautiful at night! Such sweet vintage touches in your Christmas decorating, very pretty!

  3. I think I could be your mama! I bought my son that very same Christmas book when he was little. Thanks for the memories.

  4. Oh, everything is so lovely! I’d love to see that motion lamp going to town! What a sweet little olden book too! I have a few from my childhood and some from my children’s days!
    be a sweetie,
    shelia 😉

  5. It all looks lovely. You are so lucky to have so many family heirlooms handed down to you by your mother. My mom wasn’t much of a material person. She has very few things to hand down from her parents and grandparents, no Christmas items at all…so it’s nice to see yours !

  6. Your tree is beautiful! That Econolite is so cool. My grandma had one of those. I remember it from a loooong time ago. I love the gifts in th basket too.
