Coffee Table Makeover – Themed Furniture Makeover Day

Today is the first Themed Furniture Makeover Day for 2016.  If you are new here, each month my friends challenge each other to make over a piece of furniture using a theme.  This month the theme is “Shades of White.”  My coffee table makeover didn’t follow my original plan but I love the end result.

I found this coffee table back in October at Goodwill.  I started working on it then but got sidetracked with Thanksgiving and Christmas.  January was the perfect time to start working on it again for this month’s challenge.

Coffee Table from Goodwill Before the Makeover This piece is quite sturdy and had been used for years by children based on the crayon marks and stickiness found underneath.  I’m sure it was factory made but the neat thing is that it’s signed underneath by the man who assembled it.

I would like to have a coffee table in this room but it isn’t practical with Sherman (our dog).  Mr. SP and Sherman use this area for wrestle and cuddle sessions each evening.  It’s all about what Sherman wants or needs at our house!

The silver ice bucket on the chest is an estate sale find from the weekend.  I actually scored two of them!

Antique Chocolate Set

The chocolate set was a recent gift from my mom.  We spotted it in an antique shop in Culpeper and when I said that I wanted it, my sweet Mama carried it to the counter and bought it for me.  Can you picture ladies at the turn of the century sipping hot chocolate from these delicate cups?

Real Life with Sherman SkulinaJust so you know what life if really like at my house, here’s sweet Sherman in his usual daytime spot, on the sofa.  He was wondering why i put the table in his way.  He wouldn’t leave his spot so that I could take pictures until I rattled the treat jar in the kitchen, then he came running.  If you look at my other pictures, you can see him in background resting.  As soon as I finished my pictures, he was back in his spot.  🙂

“Shades of White” was a fun theme and I’m looking forward to seeing what my friends share.  You can see all of my Themed Furniture Makeover Day pictures here.

    1. Thanks, Larissa! The chest was my grandmother’s. She purchased it at an antique shop in West Va in the 1970’s. I was thrilled when she passed it along to me.

  1. Beautiful job! The finsihes look so lovely with the other pieces in your room. I love love love the tea set, too!

    1. Thanks, Lindsay! The size would be great for a family with kids. I can imagine kids sitting around it playing games or coloring.

  2. Perfect color combo for this table Paula! It sure fits perfectly in that spot too even though you’re not keeping it. The style reminds me of a child’s table set my Granny gave me and my sisters over 50 years ago.

    1. Sherman think that couch is his, Megan, and I guess he’s right. Before he came along, it wasn’t used at all.

    1. Thank you, Jeanie! My mom was so sweet to buy the chocolate set for me when we saw it in an antique shop.

    1. I also rarely see a round coffee table when I’m out and about. Maybe that’s a sign that I should keep this one!

      Paula

    1. Thank you, Kathleen! I hope I’ll get a new space soon but in the mean time I’m enjoying the break.

    1. Thanks, Marie! I’ve got my fingers crossed for a new opportunity but not having a shop right now is giving me time to get some inventory for when I do have one.

  3. So pretty Paula! Love the contrast of the dark top and the light legs. Sorry to hear about your shop, but I know new opportunities will find you! xo

  4. I love the crisp look of the black and white. It’s always a well decorated room if you plan for the space to do family activities. Even if those activities are playing with the family dog. I’ve been wanting to move the furniture around in our living room but can’t because our German Shepherd is losing his sight. Just can’t do that to him.

  5. Paula,
The coffee table made an amazing transformation, dear one!!!
    The chocolate set is exquisite!!!
In my evening devotion, I’m lifting you up in prayer, by name,
that the Lord will open a door of opportunity for you!!!
Sherman is a sweet photo bomber!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat

    1. Thank you, Pat! I love the chocolate set and my mom was so sweet to buy it for me when we saw it in an antique shop.

  6. The hot chocolate set is so pretty and looks great on your new table… even if for just the photo shoot. Life often dictates decor choices… with a muddy munchkin and two cats… I understand that family member’s needs over rule our desires for decor! ;o)

    1. I moved the chocolate set to a higher spot so it’s safe from sweet Sherman. It’s all about Sherman at our house.

    1. Thanks, Amy! I’ve got my fingers crossed that a new space will open for me soon. Being “off” for a while is giving me a chance to build up some inventory.

    1. Thank you, Kimm! Sherman is a great dog. The coffee table just may end up at the lake but for now it’s in the basement. I’m going to need a storage unit at the rate I’m going.

      Paula

  7. The table turned out great. You can’t beat black and white for a classic combo. I love the monthly makeover themed furniture series.

  8. Great find Paula and it turned out beautifully! Hope things work out for a new place to sell your wonderful creations/transformations!
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
    Blessings,
    Cindy
