Cross Your Heart Valentine Wreath

Cross Your Heart Valentine Wreath by virginiasweetpea

January is almost over and the time is right to decorate the doors of our home for Valentine’s Day.  I made two versions of the same wreath, one for the front door and one for the kitchen door.

The front door version has a white fabric background accented with pink hearts and dark pink yarn.Cross Your Heart White and Pink Wreath

The kitchen door wreath is recycled from a neighbor’s Christmas wreath thrown out with the trash.  I removed all of the greenery and the green plastic over the wreath form and allowed the straw part to dry thoroughly.

The form was then wrapped in duck tape to keep the straw from shedding.  (You can see that it shed quite a bit as I wrapped it.)

The form was then wrapped in fabric strips held in place with hot glue.

A cookie cutter made an ideal heart template.  Hearts were traced onto felt and then cut out with scissors.

After figuring out the placement, the hearts were glued in place and yarn was wrapped around the wreath to make an argyle pattern over the hearts.

I’m happy to have the outside of our home decorated for the season.  Do you have Valentine décor on  your doors?

  1. Super cute! I like how you reused an old wreath. Very clever! I haven’t made a wreath since high school, but I’ve got lots of ideas for some! 🙂

  2. Hi Paula! Thanks for stopping by the House on Lavender Hill…

I LOVE your wreath – it’s such a happy touch to both doors. I can’t decide which I like better the white or the pink – they are both adorable! My son is a heart transplant recipient so I love incorporating hearts in my decor all your round. I think I’m going to borrow your idea for Lavender Hill…. hmmmmm… the possibilities are just endless!

    thanks for sharing,
    gena

  3. I love both of your wreaths! I am going to try to make one myself. Thanks for the directions.
I have been reading your blog for some time now, but have never commented. I always enjoy your blog so much! I do not have a blog.
