Looking at Properties…Just for Fun!

If you’ve read my blog for a while, then you know that Mr. SP and I love to go to the lake. We have it in our minds that it would be nice to own a lake house or to find a lot to build a house in the very distant future. Mr. SP loves to search the mls listings for properties and for lots. One of our good friends is a realtor and she sends Mr. SP listings all of the time. We decided to take a drive to the lake yesterday to investigate a few.

Note: I am not wild about the idea of owning a second home at this point in our lives. We are busy people and I don’t know how we could possibly find time to take care of a second home. Plus, I really don’t like working and I would love to quit and get a fun part time job. Having a second home would require that I work. I like knowing that if I ever get mad enough about something at work that I CAN quit if I want to quit.

I snapped this photo out of the car window on our way to the lake. This farm is in a program that protects it from ever being developed.

This house is a little bit too far away from our home. It would take us roughly an hour and a half to get to it. I do think that it has tons of potential! The first thing that I would do would be to rip off those window boxes and then replace the shutters with a different color. We were not with a realtor, so I didn’t get to go through the inside of it. I peeped in the front window and could see the living room, dining room, and kitchen. It was cute, cute, cute!! We may call the realtor to see the inside of it. (I have seen the pictures of the inside of this house on the mls listing and they were all good.)

Isn’t the view from the house pretty?

Mr. SP and I saw the next house this summer from our boat and always wondered how to get to it by car. We found the mls listing for the house, but most of the listings do not give a specific address at the lake so that you are forced to call a realtor. Our realtor friend is in Germany right now, so Mr. SP did some Internet research and figured out approximately where this house would be located. We drove and drove and looked and looked and could not find the house. Finally, we went down one last gravel road and there it was! This house is a one room efficiency. We don’t have kids, so one room would work for us. I’m going to guess that it was built in the 1960’s. The price on this is WAY too high, but I am intrigued by it and I want to see the inside of it.

The driveway is pretty steep:

Talk about being ON the water! Can you imagine sitting on this deck looking at the water while drinking your morning coffee or in the evening while sipping a glass of wine?

The boat storage underneath is kind of creepy, but not to worry, it comes with a dock and covered boat storage.

It is really fun to look at property when you are doing it just for fun!

Here is the lot that we REALLY want. We have not put an offer in on it because the neighborhood that it is in requires building a McMansion sized home and we don’t want or need a big house. A small house is all we want or need! This is a photo from last winter of this lot. Doesn’t it have a killer view??

  1. Oh my gosh, Paula that is some gorgeous lake property. I like both lots. My hubby and I also have two properties, one main home and another “love shack” at the lake. It is alot of work sometimes, but on those quiet evenings spent watching the sunset from the dock, all the work is worth it.

    P.S. I left you a little something on my blog… 🙂

  2. love your options-hubby and i also toss the idea around-with prices being so great. the house right on the water-looks really neat. we just spent some time with friends over the summer with a house right on the water and it was so nice. everything you need is right there and you don’t have to walk back and forth to the house. good luck!
