Recycled Soda Bottle Wreath

My kitchen door needed a wreath for spring and I couldn’t decide what I’d like to make.  If you’ve been a long-time reader of my blog, you may remember the Anthropology inspired soda bottle “wreath” that I made using an old tennis racket back in April of 2010.

OriginalWreath

I spotted this “wreath” in my basement and thought it would be fun to give it a makeover for 2012.  I found a grapevine wreath that I’d used in the past, took the soda bottle flowers off the tennis racket, wired them to the grapevine wreath, and I had a new look for free.  I like this version even better!

If you are wondering how to make the flowers, simply cut the bottom off a soda bottle, remove the label, and then cut four petals.  The bottle top becomes the center of the flower.  Spray paint the flowers, screw on the top, and you have a soda bottle flower.

This wreath is double recycled since both the soda bottle flowers and wreath are reused.  This makes it a perfect wreath for April, especially since Earth Day is April 22.

I love being able to reuse something I already have for decorating.  I wonder if my neighbors have figured out how I made this?  I’m not sure that I could unless I got close enough to examine it.

After a glorious week off from school, it’s back to work tomorrow.  I’m excited to see my kiddos and can hardly believe that I only have seven weeks left to work and then it’s summer vacation!

Have a great week!

  1. So pretty! They look like Easter! They would look cute as little windmills in a garden if you could figure out how to attach them to long sticks and make them spin. They would probably do a great job of keeping birds away. You are so creative!

  2. So cool, Paula! I am loving recycled flowers these days. Thanks for reminding me I can spray paint plastic.
