The Weekend

I feel like I don’t have much to show for this weekend.  Usually I complete a project or accomplish a few things that provide blogging material.  This weekend I didn’t accomplish much of anything other than running, playing tennis, and adding to my soon to be a sewing room mess.

My father-in-law has generously let me have anything that I want from my mother-in-law’s sewing room.  The sheer amount of stuff is overwhelming.  I spent a snow day last week spreading out all of my supplies on the floor, then adding what I inherited from my grandmother to my things, and finally grouping my mil’s thing along with mine and Granny’s.  Saturday we filled the Explorer with more supplies.  I’ve yet to go through my new haul.  The thought of organizing all of these supplies is a bit daunting.  I think I need several snow days where I’m trapped at home and can do nothing but work.

When I look at this photo, I actually am not quite so overwhelmed.  I just need to come up with a system and to decide exactly where to put what.  I have a sewing table with storage, a matching four drawer storage cube, a dresser, several plastic bins, and a filing cabinet (that needs rehab before it can be used).  I just need some motivation and time.  Would anyone like to help?

Saturday night we went to fun beer dinner at our club.  I am not a beer person, I prefer wine, but I did taste all of them and found a few tolerable.

You can see that I’m not the only person at the table who prefers wine.

We sampled these beers.  A surprise to me was that I liked the Dixie Blackened Voodoo, a darker beer.  If I had to drink a whole glass of one of these and not just a sip, I’d choose the Allagash, a pale beer.  Do you recognize or like any of these?

Each beer sample was served with the following foods.  The food was delicious!  My favorite was the Kielbasa wrapped in puffed pastry served with mustard on the side.  Yum!

What about you?  Do you prefer beer or wine or do you not drink at all?  I could honestly never drink again and not miss it much at all.  Don’t get me wrong, I love to relax with my friends and enjoy a glass every now and then, I’d just rather eat than drink.

  1. Haha! Ditto on the “eating rather than drinking.” 😉 I honestly don’t care much for the taste of alcohol (not that it stopped me in college), but I will drink socially.

The menu looked really yummy. You guys get to go to some of the coolest events. 🙂

I am SO envious of your sewing stash!! Your FIL is so generous. 🙂 I bet you got some really neat things!

  2. Well Paula if you can wait to spring I’ll come help sort out the sewing room. I’m also trying to get my “act” together in my sewing room, it is soooo out of control.

As you know I’m a WTW girl myself, beer is not something I enjoy but having dinner with friends and a nice glass of wine sure sounds like a winner.

  4. Your sewing room mess look pretty organized to me…it won’t take long once you have places to put everything! And to have a whole room!!

Your beer dinner sounds like a fun thing to do. I like beer, but not the darker ones and it has to be a very warm day for me to drink it. I am a wine girl and love Pinot Grigio. And I never touch mixed drinks except a sample sip. Yep…I think I’d rather eat! ;-D

  5. I prefer wine to beer any day. I just cannot develop a taste for beer. It looks like the food was fun though! Enjoy your new supplies! Maybe you’ll get your snow days to get caught up. Carla

  6. Paula, your sewing room is going to be great! How cool to have all those supplies from people you loved.

I am so not a beer drinker. I don’t hate it; I just don’t care for it–and I figure that, if I don’t like it that much, there’s no reason for me to have the alcohol or the calories! I love a nice glass of wine and also a few cocktails. And in the past few years I’ve come to really appreciate the taste of really good spirits, such as a good single malt scotch. But my favorite drinks have always been things like iced tea and Coca-Cola. I had to give up Coke because it was destroying my teeth, but if it weren’t bad for my teeth I’d have a Coke every day! 🙂

  7. I so much prefer wine…really can’t drink beer at all unless I’ve had soooo much wine or something else I’m in no condition to care! I could easily never drink anything again…definitely much prefer food and if we’re trading calories, food trumps wine or beer any day of the year! Looks like a fun dinner, though!

  8. Hi- I am a wine girl. Will hold onto a beer-but have a hard time getting the whole thing down.

The sewing room looks like a lot of fun! Last time I was following you your Mother was working on her home? How is that going?Done?

    Nice to hear from you!

  9. Oh my… good luck with your project. I agree, another snow day is in order! I have the same problem with some of my supplies that are overflowing my storage area!

  10. Well, I’m a little overwhelmed by all your sewing stuff, but what a nice problem to have!
I don’t drink much at all. I don’t like beer, and most wines don’t thrill me either. I just don’t really like the taste of alcohol.

  11. Your sewing “mess” looks a lot more organized than mine. You would feel totally organized if you saw mine!

That beer party looks awesome. I love beer, but I’m kind of boring. I don’t get adventurous with my beer drinking. I don’t drink very often AT ALL. Most of the time I’d rather eat. BUT there is nothing like a cold beer with pizza and/or mexican food! I so love beer with tacos and cheese dip. YUM!

Was this cool beer thing at the Club? Y’all have so much fun. I’m totally jealous that y’all get to do so many fun things! Y’all are just fun people!

  12. Your sewing room looks like my office (well, yours is more organized).

I am not really a beer or wine drinker. Occasionally I will have a glass of wine but never beer…bleck!

The Weekend

After five days of 7th graders, I was more than ready for the weekend.  Mr. SP and I headed to the lake on Friday as soon as we both could leave work.  We cruised for a while and then watched the sun go down while we had a picnic.  It doesn’t get much better than that!

I have been having trouble with my back ever since I built a pathway from our sidewalk to our hose.  I should have known better than to move heavy rock on my own, but I did it anyway and have been paying the price ever since.  I’ve been good for the past two weeks and then Thursday night my back really started to give me a fit after I played too much tennis.  I couldn’t even bend over to wash my face.  I had a massage Saturday afternoon that relieved some of my pain but I’m still not 100%.  I was able to work in the yard and mow the grass on Saturday, I just had to be very careful not to make sudden movements.  Mr. SP was really sweet on Friday and went extra slow when we got to bumpy spots in the water so that it wouldn’t jar me.
A neighbor’s cat loves to visit our house to roll around in the Catmint that I have planted in several beds.  Usually she won’t let me play with her but she was friendly Saturday night.  I am really allergic to cats but I love them and will risk sneezing to love on one when I have the opportunity.
Mr. SP’s sister is visiting for a few days from California and we enjoyed a nice cookout with her and Mr. SP’s dad Saturday night.  She’s a vegetarian and enjoyed a Boca Burger while the rest of us chowed down on the real stuff.
I didn’t get a lot accomplished this weekend as we went back to the lake on Sunday.  It won’t be long before it will be too cold to be on the lake and I want to enjoy it while I can.  Besides, I can do projects any old time.
I hope my back will continue to get better as the week goes on.  The massage really helped.  One of these days I’m going to have a massage for pleasure instead of because I’m injured.  I’m supposed to play in a singles tennis league this fall that starts on Thursday night and I hope that I’ll be up to it.  I haven’t sweated in three days and I’m having serious withdrawal symptoms.  I think I may get high on sweat just like that cat that visits my yard gets high on my Catmint.
Have a great week!

  2. I’m so sorry about your back. Hope it feels better by Thursday so you get to play. Glad you got to have a good time at the lake.

  3. Hoping your back is all healed up for tennis, Paula! Natalie jumped on my back the other week and I could that it was on the verge of doing something crazy. I had to be really careful.

That is a beautiful cat. He must have been into you (or the mint) b/c he’s doing that head tilt thing. 😉

Glad you got to enjoy that beautiful lake!!

  4. Oh Paula, I am happy you had a great weekend, you needed it! What a beautiful place to recharge, that lake is just gorgeous! Hope you get to feeling better.

  5. Oh, Paula! I knew you were a teacher, and I loved you for it; but a Jr High teacher?! There are special rewards for you in heaven!!

I’m glad you had a good weekend. Hope tennis is awesome and you enjoy your sweating. It’s good for you!
