Where Do You Store Wreaths?

Where do you store your wreaths?

Living in a house with small closets and only an attic crawlspace can create storage problems for a couple who likes to collect and also has a lot of hobbies.  I enjoy crafting wreaths for our doors and porch wall but ran our of places to store them.  I had some stuffed in the attic, some hanging from my craft closet in the basement, and the rest were scattered on the floor around the closet.

This craft closet is great for storing supplies.  Some wreaths hang from the cabinet by wreath hangers and others are hung with nails on the side of the cabinet.  I have a lot of “stuff” and what I’m not using for decorating gets stored in the basement. That’s the mess that you see around the cabinet.

When our house got hit by a tree week before last, I had to take everything out of the attic crawlspace in preparation for roof repairs. I decided that I needed to find a new place to store wreaths from the attic and from the basement floor.

Another basement room is part workshop and part storage.  I realized that a perfect place to store wreaths would be from the rafters of this room.  Mr. SP already had multiple airplanes hanging from the ceiling, so I hung my wreaths in between the airplanes.

Perfect!  Now they are out of my way but still easily accessible.

I love an easy solution like this one!

This room is full of “stuff.”  One wall has shelves for seasonal decoations.  The cabinet in the corner holds our Christmas tree and wreaths that we use on the outside of the house.  The wall to the right stores our tennis, bike, and ski equipment.  Note that there’s plenty of empty space in the rafters for future wreath storage.

Where do you store your wreaths?  Garage?  Attic?  Closets?  Under beds?  I’d really like to know.

  1. Right now I have them stored in a closet and also in the garage. But after reading your post, I may see if hubby can hang them up in our attic space!!

  2. Right now I have a bunch of Christmas wreaths sitting on top of a piece of exercise equipment. I’m eager to read what others do because cleaning up this room over the garage is LONG OVERDUE!

  3. I wish I had an awesome basement like you do! Mine are piled up in the closet in the hall and a few in the attic, stored in trash bags to keep them semi-clean.

  4. Hi Paula! Great minds think alike! That is where I store mine, slipped into a garbage bad and labeled.
You have lots of rafter space… for lots and lots of wreaths!

  5. I used some strapping things I got at Lowes. I have no idea what they’re called, I think they may be pipe hangers. Anyway I hung them from the floor joists in the basement then put a piece of PVC pipe through them and then hung the wreaths from them. Heels everything tidy and doesn’t take up any needed space on the floor or storage shelves.

  6. Great idea! My wreaths are stored in my craft room closet. We are quite blessed to have a house that has a ton of storage space. Thank you for popping in for a visit and the sweet comment at The Dedicated House. It means the world. Don’t forget Make it Pretty Monday party goes live at 8am CST on Monday. Hope to see your prettiness there. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

  7. Hi Paula! Well, all I can say is I’m jealous jealous jealous! 🙂 Wish we had a basement and yours has so much storage. I love the idea of hanging your wreaths up on the rafters and they won’t get smushed! We have an attic and I poke stuff up there in those big plastic bins but I still wish I had a big ole basement! 😉
Thanks for popping in to see me.
    be a sweetie,
    shelia 😉

  8. Paula,
Great minds do think a lot. I also store my wreaths in clear plastic bags hung from the rafters (floor joists) in my basement. I get the clear plastic bags from the dry cleaners (a few cents each) or re-use the bags that come back with my dry cleaning.
Love the wreath you made from old, used flowers. I, too, recycle my flowers from one arrangement to another.

    1. You’ve given me a great idea, Barbara. I’m going to visit the dry cleaner to get some bags for my wreaths.

      Paula
