Old Stuff Upstairs

Not having kids to occupy the two bedrooms in our upstairs means that days and days can go by without either me or Mr. SP setting foot in either bedroom.  One bedroom is a guest room and the other is my catch-all room.  I forget sometimes that I have some interesting things stored away up there.

I love this old pie safe that is in the guest room.  I wish I had a place for it downstairs so that I could enjoy it a little more often.  My mom and dad surprised me with it one Christmas.  I use it to store childhood books and in the bottom, old photo albums.  You can see that Mr. SP’s childhood Steiff stuffed animals also are stored here.

Did any of you love Trixie Belden?  I think that I have the entire collection!

Mr. Lion is resting on some really old and very interesting books.

This skunk isn’t a Steiff.  It belonged to my dad and I would guarantee that there is a naughty story behind it.  I wish he were still around to tell me all about it.

This was my grandmother’s gym bag during the 1930’s.  She played basketball for William Byrd High School and carried her uniform to the games in this cute case.  I love how she decorated it with college pendant stickers.

This is my dad’s helmet from a childhood football team.  I’m so glad that my grandmother saved nearly everything!

I don’t know the story behind my dad’s old drum.

I love old stuff!  I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my treasures.

  1. I love it when people save things from their childhood. I didn’t but I have made sure to put away special toys and books for my children.

    I love the pie safe!

  2. Paula, great collection! My MIL saved; my mom threw out! I think you might have a pie safe-jelly cupboard combination piece there. The top with the tins is definitely the pie safe part; the bottom reminds me of a jelly cupboard. Just beautiful!

  3. WOW!!!! What neat treasures. 🙂 I love the pie safe, and the old gym bag is really neat!!

  4. I love all your old treasures! I loved reading all the Trixie Beldon books. They were like best friends. I read and reread them many times. I think my sister has my collection now (she thinks they are hers).

  5. Oh my gosh, I love the whole thing! I like old stuff too, but it’s even better when it was in the family and you know the story behind it.
I read Trixie Belden when I was a kid, but I don’t think I saved any of them. I do, however, have an old one that I found at a thrift store not too long ago.
