Christmas Eve and Day

Does anyone else feel like they’ve done nothing but eat for the last few days?  I am itching to run, but it won’t happen today because we are going to Richmond to meet family that we haven’t seen for a while in Cary Town.  I’m hoping to at least get to walk around a bit today!  Wednesday I was in the car for 13 hours, Thursday I cooked all day, Friday I was in the car for 2 1/2 hours, and now today I’ll log about 6 car hours.  I don’t mean to complain, I actually have enjoyed every minute.  Today I get to see my precious niece and that will make every mile driven worth it.

Christmas Eve was spent at my house.  I LOVE to cook and had a great day in the kitchen.  I made ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, pineapple casserole, rolls, iced ginger cookies, and cake balls.

Mr. SP and I opened our presents on Christmas morning and then went over to his dad’s house for a bit.  The three of us then drove to my mom’s house.

It’s been a rough year for Mr.SP’s dad since Ruth died a year ago.  We were both happy that he seemed to have a good time and be in good spirits.

My mom is always a bit blue at Christmas because my dad and brother both died this time of year.  She was in good spirits, too.  It makes both of us happy when our parents are happy.

Mr. SP loved his gifts, especially the University of Wisconsin ones.

He’ll wear his new bow tie and cumber bund on New Year’s Eve.  He’s not the bow tie type for everyday wear, though he does where a tie every day except for Friday.

We had a feast at Mama’s house on Christmas Day.  She made fried oysters, beef, swiss medley vegetables, mashed potatoes, slaw, rolls, coconut cake, chocolate cake, and pecan bars.

Can you see why I’m itching to run??

This is our last Christmas spent in Afton in this house.  Next year we’ll be in her historic Walnut Avenue home.  I can’t wait to see how she decorates it for Christmas!

I love Mama’s tree, especially the antique toys that she scatters around the bottom.

My mom and dad made this feather tree long ago.  These post cards are from her side of the family.  One is post marked 1908 and the other two are 1909.

It’s nice that you are able to travel and visit with family. We don’t get to travel very often. Air fare for the 7 of us is outreagous. Summer is usually our only travel time.
Best Wishes for a Happy New Year.
