4th of July Mantel

My living room is ready for the 4th with the mantel decked out in red, white, and blue.  This display started with the creation of a patriotic bandana wreath.  After it was crafted, I shopped my decorating stash for red, white, and blue items and came up with this display.

Red candles with white bases tie into my patriotic theme beautifully.  My dad bought the candlestick on the left for my mom long ago and the two wooden candlestick holders on the right were thrifted, repainted, and distressed.  The small glass votive are usually used only at Christmas but make an second appearance in June to celebrate the 4th.  Red wire is wrapped around each vase.

Mr. SP and I crafted the patriotic flag holder several years ago.  The painted flag was purchased many years ago at a craft fair.

This hat was originally owned by the son of the man who originally owned my Mom’s Walnut Avenue home.  I do not know its age but would guess prior to 1950.

The music cabinet to the left of the mantel gets into the red, white, and blue theme with a red vase, a white pot, and two blue insulators.4th of July Mantel1

It’s hard to believe that the 4th will be here in just a few weeks.  We are still deciding how we’ll celebrate.  Camping at the lake has been discussed.  Let’s just say that I haven’t camped in many, many years, so we’ll have see about the camping thing.  My idea of camping is staying in a hotel.
Since this is an Olympic year, my mantel may stay decorated in patriotic colors until the closing ceremonies.  I’ve always loved the Olympics and am looking forward to watching and cheering for the USA.

Are you ready for the 4th?

  1. Beautiful mantel.

So patriotic! Not sure what we are doing on the 4th yet. YesvIbwould rather stay in hotel rather than a tent, ha!

  2. Hi Paula! Oh, everything is looking very festive and ready for the 4th! That hat is amazing and what a treasure.
    Be a sweetie,
    shelia 😉

  3. Hat? It’s a hat? It is so unusual and so vintagey — I love it. Using the insulators for the color theme is quite clever. I’m glad you decorate early so you can enjoy your pretty things. I’m terrible and usually remember the day of and then it’s too late. Yes, definitely keep the patriotic theme going. Go Team USA!

  4. Your mantle looks wonderful! Love the vintage hat. Very cool! I just realized this morning that the 4th is just two weeks away. I am so behind. I’e done nothing for the 4th.

  5. I love red, white, and blue for the summer! You have some neat thiings

BTW, if you haven’t tried it, Wild Wolf Brewery is a neat place to have lunch. It’s between Blue Mt. and Devil’s Backbone. The grilled chicken salad on grilled romaine lettuce is to die for. Not to mention the beer battered deep fried oreos!

  6. Festive, bright, fun, patriotic, with a sense of flair and a sense of history! You’ve done a great job here, Paula. I love the way you integrate old and new things. I think that hat is my favorite element–you’re so clever to display it on a plate stand! 🙂
