A Day in the Kitchen

Whew! I’ve been in my kitchen most of today. We had my mother and father in law over for dinner tonight to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday on Thursday. Before I started the birthday preparations, I made cookies to take to school for a party tomorrow and a casserole for us to eat this week.

My favorite chocolate chip cookie is a a Cook’s Illustated recipe. It is pretty much like any other chocolate chip recipe, but the butter is melted in this recipe.

I made a Mexican Lasagna for us to eat this week. I added spinach to the recipe. (Is Jessica Sienfeld rubbing off on me, too?)

I didn’t find any flowers at Kroger that I wanted to use for an arrangement, so I improvised with what I could find in my yard, which isn’t much this time of year. I made the placemats last summer.

For dinner we had Sesame Noodles with shredded chicken and carrot, roasted asparagus, rolls, and birthday cake.

The cake is from this month’s Cook’s Illustrated. The inside is yellow. It was good, but not good enough to make again. This is my best job ever icing a cake so that it actually looks pretty good!
