Summer Mantel

It’s kind of ironic that I waited until back-to-school time to do my summer mantel, but that’s what happened.  We enjoyed my Patriotic Mantel most of June and all of July but a change was needed for August.

I pulled out three fabric covered panels that I made several years ago out of the drapes that were hanging in our living room when Mr. SP bought our house.  It’s an old Williamsburg print and I’d buy it today if it were available.  To make this fabric look more like summer than fall, I decided to use blue on my mantel to pull out the blue in the fabric.

The blue plate is unmarked and was a gift from a friend when her mom moved out of her home.  The pieces surrounding it are Fenton.

The pot to the left is McCoy and was a gift from my mom.  The piece in the middle belonged to my grandmother.  She really liked this piece and I’m glad I inherited it.  The candlestick was a long ago gift from my dad to my mom.

The music stand to the left of the mantel has a coordinating vignette.

The lantern was my grandfather’s, the insulators were my grandmother’s, and the pot is from my growing collection.

Now I’m all set until it’s time to do a fall mantel.

Today is my first day back at school and our students return on August 14.  If you are doing something fun, think about me while I’m sitting through meeting after meeting.

  2. Paula, I think I’ve told you before how much I love those fabric panels! So very pretty–and just right as your mantel backdrop. Those blue pieces are lovely, too!

I didn’t do much 4th of July decorating this year, and I just now took it down. August leaves me sort of cold in the decorating department (maybe because it’s so HOT outside!), but you’re doing great!

  3. Looks great! I still have my Spring mantel up but I am really looking forward to getting it ready for fall.

  4. Your fabric panels are adorable but your turquoise plate catches my eyes and a fave.
