Top Ten Projects for 2016

How can it be the last day of 2016?  At the end of the year it is fun to look back to see which projects were the most popular for the year.

This year DIY projects were favorites of my readers.  top-ten-projects-2016-virginia-sweet-pea

Let’s take a look at my top ten posts for 2016!  Click on the link beside each number to visit the project.

1.  DIY 2×4 Bench

This bench was made for the front porch of our lake house which was completed at the end of 2015.  It’s on the front porch and is the perfect spot for dropping off bags or taking off or putting on shoes when we enter or exit.  In 2017 I plan to stain this to match the stain on our front door.

2.  Sewing Cabinet to Outdoor Bar

This is another project made for the lake.  We use this on our dock and it’s perfect for entertaining.  My mom’s friend found this on the street in Charlottesville and knew that I would enjoy making it over.

3.  2016 Stitch Fix Reviews

My monthly Stitch Fix reviews are favorite posts to write.  I love getting my monthly package from Stitch Fix!

4.  DIY Folding Display for Shows and Markets

We made this folding wall for a few pop-up sales that I did this summer and fall.  The wall is easy to transport and set up and I can easily add nails to any spot to display my wares.

5.  DIY Footstool

DIY footstools were a summer project for the lake house.  I showed them here on the dock with our DIY Adirondack Chairs but we used them primarily on the deck with rockers.

6.  DIY Industrial Paper Towel Holder

This was the first DIY project that we completed for the lake house.  It works like a charm and we love its industrial vibe.

7.  DIY Wine Rack – Display Your Favorite Wines

This wine rack is a great way to display favorite wines and glasses.  We made two of these and gave both away as gifts.

8.  How to Make a DIY Glue Gun Holder

I love to craft but didn’t do as much of it in 2016 as I usually do, probably because most of my free time was spent at the lake.  When I do craft, a glue gun is often involved, and this glue gun holder keeps messy drips from getting on my work space.

9.  Farmhouse Style Hutch Makeover

I completed this makeover with intentions of selling it but after putting it in my kitchen decided that I had to keep it.  I enjoy changing out the plate display with the season.

10.  DIY Baseball Bookends

My father-in-law is a huge baseball fan and we made these bookends for his bedroom at the lake.  I made a second set that I gave to a friend at school who decorated her nursery with a baseball theme.

What’s in store for 2017?  Probably a lot of DIY for the lake house.  This year we plan to focus on the landscape and also finishing the interior décor.  At home, we have painting to do in several rooms and we plan to do a mini-makeover of our family room.  We’ve been working on updates to our workshop that I hope to share in the new year.

Thank you for following along with me in 2016!

    1. I use that glue gun stand every time I craft with a glue gun. It’s so great to not have the glue gun fall over and also to keep the drips contained. Happy 2017!
