Outside in Late October

After over a month of enjoyment, my front porch mums were ready to be replaced.  Pansies would be a nice choice, but the deer will not leave them alone in this location, so I didn’t want to try that this year.  I wondered what to use to spruce up this area and then remembered  pumpkin topiaries that I made years ago.

These work perfectly with my new pots.

They look nice from the street, too.

My Asters are in full bloom and are so pretty.  This is a deer resistant plant if you have a deer problem like I do.

Pineapple Sage has been pretty for a long while.

The deer have eaten a good many of my mum buds but some have survived.  Next year I’ll have to be more diligent with spraying Liquid Fence.
Fall Blooms

It’s been a year of good flower year.  Soon frost will come and the plants will rest for a few months.  I’m enjoying every warm day, too.  Yesterday was wonderful but I think cold fall weather is heading my way!

  1. Your topiaries are very festive. I’ll have to show my friend at Snap Peas yours. She loves all kinds. I’ve never heard of Liquid Fence. I must jot this down in my gardening notebook.

  2. I love your topiaries! I am tempted to get urns next year and maybe the squirrels won’t be able to reach the pumpkins! Love your pretty asters, too!!

  3. Love, love, love the pumpkin topiaries. I had really good intentions of making some this year, but it just hasn’t happened yet.

I’m so jealous of your green thumb. Your yard is gorgeous! I killed my potted mums in no time flat!

  4. Joan told me to look at your pumpkin topiaries – they’re adorable. I tried stacking some concrete pumpkins last you – if they’d just make them without stems I’d be in good shape 🙂

  5. I love your topiaries and the views of your yard. I’ve had more trouble with animals in my pots this fall!

  6. Paula, I just love your topiaries. I still have never made those. I also love our urns! Really nice. Your house is SO pretty.

Y’all must really have a horrible deer problem. OUr backyard is fenced in or we probably would too. It has been a beautiful fall here in the midwest. The trees are gorgeous this year! Love fall!!
